Thats what i had after the Traxxas TRX-1

Hydradrive.......... Mmmm

Well mmm.. its mmm !!

Ok here goes,

Imagine a a round, flatish case (imagine 2 dinner plates upside to upside), inside that there is a fan type blade, the void is then filled with oil. The output shaft that the spur gear is on carries on through the hydradrive unit. The fan is basically fixed to that shaft because of a flat bit on the shaft and the corresponding shape of the Hydradrive, it is then held on with a nut. When you floor it, the fan tries to spin inside but because of the oil, is dampened, so it takes a while for it get to full power through the wheels, thus preventing wheelspin and vastly improving the power delivery and drive / feel of the car.

Those are all my own words from what i can remember of it and how it worked !


Essentially it does the same thing as a slipper clutch, BUT is supposed to be a LOT Smoother on the power delivery side and helps much more over rough terrain.

Very good idea, but an awful mess and balls ache when took apart to service it or change the viscosity of the oil for different conditions.
