l0p3d0g - September 1, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
want to thank allan for this awsome beest! Obviously i tried to get it going as soon as i got it! Cant get it started for more than a feiw seconds, i cant blip the throttle to warm it up because it wil jus rip my arm off lmfao! Checked the glow plug an the burnt fuel smoke was coming out the engine from were i took the plug out an also out of the carb, i cud only seem to get it started while the throttle was open abit more than it shud if i go to apply breaks to stop it rolling it wil die out,

Jedi Master - September 1, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Sounds like you need to adjust the idle speed and the low end mixture, probably coz you're using a different fuel to Al?

alans_savage - September 1, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
the ek4 when you do get it to run will need a few mins to warm up or it will just stall

YZ-10 - September 1, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
al when did you run it last mate? as ross bash we had it spot on

alans_savage - September 1, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
do you still need a starting rod then or do you have one?

was last ran at ross bash was going to run at camp over but didnt in the end

l0p3d0g - September 1, 2008 08:43 PM (GMT)
Ok i will let it warm up a bit longer, i need to keep the glow starter in there or it cuts out, i think the idle is fine it dosent sound too fast, just rolls on its own, When i went to start it a bit later on the drill was turning the bit that it connects to on the engine but it didnt sound as if it was turning the engine, unless i moved the drill about abit but it wasent mutch better but it was fine when the glow charger was fully charged, i took the glow plug out to check and the engine is turning over i think it was because the glow starter was pritty mutch dead by then, i will have a look tomorrow as i think i was jus abit too impationt to give it a bash, i am so pleased with it tho lmfao, you will have to excuse me tho i am just learing lol!

purpletimbo - September 2, 2008 11:59 AM (GMT)
have you got a starter shaft for the EK4 Lop?
let me know :thumbs_up:

l0p3d0g - September 2, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah sorry mate i have one, i have got a problem tho, i turn the drill, it turnes the bit the rod connects to but not the engine? i got the engine out and jus going to have a look, if i need the pro start bit anybody know what its called so i can get a new one?

alans_savage - September 2, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
as long as the bit your using is a 6mm hex it should be fine needs a good drill to turn it over fast enough

l0p3d0g - September 2, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
Yeah its a 6mm bit, the drill turns it fine it turns the peice it connects to at the back of the engine but not the engine itself , it was okay yesterday

russmini - September 2, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
One Way Bearing.

Know what it'll probably be, but if you want to take it out and tell me for sure, i can get you one... A Lot Cheaper than the Shops.

You can just give a Clean with some Good Degreaser, that'll get it going again, but only for a bit.

l0p3d0g - September 2, 2008 05:13 PM (GMT)
You mean the one way bearing that goes inside the back plate?

russmini - September 2, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
Yep

l0p3d0g - September 2, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
Cheers mate, http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?Call...on&ItemID=17036
Prolly going to get some 25% fuel too

How fast can you get one? they are out of stock?

l0p3d0g - September 2, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
I have orderd a new Backplate and Gasket set to sort the starting problem, It is out of stock at the moment so idk how long it will take, I have also orderd some Tornado Buggy/MT 25% As thats what allen used, So that may help the running problem that u lot sugested that cud have been fuel related :D

l0p3d0g - October 21, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
Got the car started again today, But the usual wont run without the glow starter in, Wont idle proply hard to start .ect......ect, Took the clutch apart found out the clutch in half, Lukly modelsport has one in stock, Lets see if this will be the remidy,
As its burning a hole in my pocket now

YZ-10 - October 21, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
ah clutch would of been dragging then hence engine not wanting to tick over, new clutch should be sorted  :cruising:

l0p3d0g - October 24, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
Tryed to take my car out had the new clutch, Now the Starter shaft is broke its wore down so the oneway bearing dosent stay on it propely, ITS REALLY P*****G ME OFF NOW, sorry lol have to rant somewhere, Gona sling it out now fed up, anybody want it?

Jono - October 24, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
part you are after if you still need it is called a starter coupling (the black part which goes in the backplate) be carefull as there is 2 different types i ordered one for mine and got they sent the wrong one if your after a starter shaft order a schumacher one they are cheaper and both exactly the same

LINK FOR STARTER COUPLING

l0p3d0g - October 25, 2008 01:17 PM (GMT)
I orderd one from modelsport yesterday Its AN0109 Starting axle, The bit i have has wore down less than a mm all the way round but i am guessing thats the problem.

l0p3d0g - October 28, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Finally fixed the oneway bearing problem, For now lol, I forgot to get some clutch liner, Well i didnt know i needed it, i got the engine going :D
When i open the throttle it sounds as if its choking itself, 2Mutch fuel ect, havent touched the tuning since i had it off alan, Its a very cold day tho,
Anybody know were i can get clutch liner from?

rc_vandal - October 28, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
when engine was started i used to have to let it warm up for a few mins before revving it

l0p3d0g - October 28, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
Yeah thing is i have to keep the glow heater in for ages, seems that i have to build the revs up and keep it revving, If i jus wack on the throttle sometimes it will cutt out, Gona order some clutch liner and will have another go on the weekend when i have more time

Jedi Master - October 28, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
Are you running a hot or cold plug? If it runs o.k. with the glow starter on then you may have to run a hotter plug. Or wait until the head gets up to temp before it stops cutting out with the current one.

It may also be set slightly rich on mixture, which would cool the plu and make it cut out more??

Could be a number of things but best to check all angles!!

russmini - October 28, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)

l0p3d0g - October 28, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
I dont know what plug is in it Luke, Maby Alan could tell me?, TBH i think its time i invested in a Temp Gun to tune it properly, Well got my driving test next thursday so i may well start coming to the bash's you guys seem to have fun! Got a feeling it may be this Frosty weather, As soon as i get hold of some Clutch liner i will give it another go

Jedi Master - October 28, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
Try heating the head of the engine with a hair dryer to get it up to temp. If it runs o.k. then, you know that the plug is o.k.

russmini - October 28, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
Remind me what Type (Normal/Turbo) of Plug and Size of Engine....

l0p3d0g - October 28, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
The engine is a Thunder Tiger Pro-70Bx........As for the glow plug i am researching that now it dose say 99 on it if that means anything? The plug has 2 brass spacers jus checking up to see if it needs 2?

l0p3d0g - October 28, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
Aparently O.S8 work best, so gona order one, If i dont use it its a spare :D

russmini - October 28, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
Noooooooooooooooooooo

OS8 is Everyones Easy Plug. It'll Work in almost Any Engine.

But in Most Cases is the Wrong Plug.....

l0p3d0g - October 28, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
THink it may be the glow plug, Just tested it in my heater and it only glows orange halfway up the coil,

rc_vandal - October 28, 2008 09:22 PM (GMT)
im not sure what plug is in it sorry

l0p3d0g - October 31, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
Just thought i would let you guys know I FINALLY GOT A GO TODAY!! YAY
Took me 3 hours to sand the clutch lining down to stop it rubbing on the clutch
tho lol, Only had time to use half a tank of fuel after that because it was dark, Still managed to FLIP it 5 times :joker: Jees this thing has stupid torque

YZ-10 - October 31, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
 :cruising:

Jedi Master - October 31, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
 EK4's are mental!!!!

Jono - November 1, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
Ace's, (Thunder Tigers northeast distributor and support system) official recommendation is to use fuel with minimum 20% to maximum 30% nitro and at least 20% lubricant.

They also recommend an MC59 plug with 20% nitro and an O.S. #8 with 30%.

Hope this helps you out :D

saviour - November 1, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
nice1 mate finally got it going :D

l0p3d0g - November 1, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
