Title: New to the Nitro world
Description: What car?
TobyG - August 21, 2008 11:55 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, nice to meet you all. Im about to become new to the nitro world, but im not too sure as to what i should get. Im kinda split towards the Ansmann Terrier and the Schumacher Riot and im hoping to get one soon. My friend just bough the Ansmann Hogzilla and i really wanna be able to compete and mess about with his. As you can tell my price range is around £200-250 and im trying to keep it off road and i like the look and style of these cars. Any help would be appreciated :)

hi toby welcome to the site
you could always get the same truck as your mates if you like it.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ansmann-Racing-1-8-4...id=p3286.c0.m14all 3 of the models you named are quite good models but before you totally make your mind up mate check out this site,
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/they sell loads of great models for great prices

Has it gotta be a Truck ????????????
If you'd consider a Buggy, then only 1 Choice really....................
You All know what i'm gonna say
But now the New Black Version.....
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=30403What an Absolute Bargain and Awesome 1/8th Buggy....
Oh, hang on.... Truggy.... And Damn Good

yup can't go wrong with a hyper :)
mind you i do like the look of that ansmann
and welcome aboard by the way
TobyG - August 22, 2008 11:14 AM (GMT)
I would prefer a Truggy or a buggy as me and my mates will just be fleeing around the local park to get some practice in before we think about going to a proper track. The second one you posted was quite nice. The guy in my local model shop let me get the riot out of the box, they do look pretty nice but if i could get something similar but in a 1/8 im sure it would be perfect.
Thanks for the replies guys :D

The downside with the Riot is that it is 2wd and the Havok also is.
If your planning to do some decent off-roading you need 4wd really
Schumacher do sell the Menace21 though which is 4wd, check out its spec!!!...
http://www.racing-cars.com/products.asp?recnumber=15897If you wanted to go with Schumacher the Menace would be my recommendation
Also the Schumacher/Thunder Tiger engine they use is awesome had a couple of those engines before now, they've been solid performers
russmini - August 22, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
It's gonna Have to be the Kyosko then mate.
Not being funny, but.....
Ansmann........................................
Again, not being funny but.....
I've not heard that Good a report about them...
I know one of the New Lads on here has got one and he's fitted it up with some nice bits, engine etc, but....
Kyosho Quality and Heritage at £239 Delivered....
You just Can't go Wrong with that....
Thats My Own Personal view anyway...
Keep us upto date with what you go for.

purpletimbo - August 22, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
Whereabouts you based?
I got one of those kyoshos looking at me out of its box, and if I dont keep it, its brand new, and I will beat that price by a chunk, and if you are near you could always have a look at it anyway

Im about 20minutes away from Norwich in Great Yarmouth. With the sites you guys gave me my list has kinda changed and because ive realised the prices in my local shop are stupid really. I didnt wanna go for a Schumacher menace as they were £299 yet online i can see they go for 'Menace - 4 x 4 ARR Truck - Black-Silver £239.99' so thats climbed the list and the Kyosho Inferno ST-S US Sports Ready Set you guys told me about seems rather tempting aswell. I think i need to just have a look and decide. I dont want to buy one and then regret it and wish i got another.
Also i got put off Ansmann as my friends hogzilla had to go back today after it was leaking oil straight from the suspension and it hadnt even been out of the box.

TobyG - August 23, 2008 01:14 AM (GMT)
HAHA ok guys i have narrowed it down now i think for my budget. Do i go for the smaller yet fast menace
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.phpCallF...on&ItemID=15593or do i go for the large, looks mean inferno st?
http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=...on&ItemID=29555Your views on these 2 cars would be greatly appreciated as i hope to order over the weekend.
purpletimbo - August 23, 2008 01:18 AM (GMT)
I've got the inferno in the flesh, and it's an impressive package, looks great and a spot on 14 memory digital radio thrown in, totally ready to run, great first car.

russmini - August 23, 2008 08:04 AM (GMT)
Personally....
The Kyosho....
It's a Purpose Built Truggy.
SO, should be Stronger, Better, Faster, Jump Better, Stop Better, Handle Better, etc etc etc
Oh and Tim's looks Nice, It's BNIB, can you not do a Deal with him ?????

TobyG - August 23, 2008 08:58 AM (GMT)
well guys, looks like the inferno will win the choice, maybe a menace isnt so great for a first car as it is smaller and quicker and knowing my luck i will somehow crash it and bring a tear 2 my eye. Just wait for my money to be deposited into my bank account and i think i may order later today :D Thanks for the help on picking guys.
YZ-10 - August 23, 2008 09:35 AM (GMT)
good choice with the kyosho B) the menace.. i had a go with one just after they first came out, it is lightning quick, maybe a bit too quick especially if you are starting out
MR GARDENER - August 23, 2008 10:32 AM (GMT)

russmini - August 23, 2008 11:58 AM (GMT)
So an Negative for the Kyosho...
Is that cause you Race it and that was in Race Conditions though Sir ???
Seems a little strange Kyosho would put out a Below Par Truggy....

Just curiousity by the way and trying to Help still with Decisions

Think thats a good choice :D
Yeah the Terriers are okay.......The build quality isnt amazing but its okay if your just getting in to RC's i had the kit and the instructions are absolute SH*E, The rear shocks never really worked out of the box they dont recoil properly, tryed changing oil ect... I have got my eyes on the Nanda NRT-3 PRO or the Hyper ST later on in the year
purpletimbo - August 23, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
Mine ST is sold now, a shame, but it has gone to a good home

DRIVE SHAFT POPS OUT WHEN LANDING A JUMP
HAD TO PUT 10mm OF FUEL PIPE ON SHOCK SHAFTS TO STOP THIS
russmini - August 24, 2008 08:08 AM (GMT)
Ah right...
So not too bad a thing then...
Presumedly it runs Dog Bones ??????
So a bit of Fuel Tube in Diff and Wheel Hub to get it Centred and should be fine...
Unless it's UJ's, then, yeh as you say, some Fuel Tube in the Shocks sort it out just fine.
Funny you say that, i was looking at a 8ight the other day... Damn the Driveshafts run Right on the end of the Diff Cup... How they don't Pop out is beyond me...
And on my RC8, most everyone used Fuel Tube in the Shocks to to Tune it, so, not too bad a thing really.

I think i got that right :s
TobyG - August 28, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
ok my first question about my new car, like it said in the manual, sit it up so all wheels off floor and slowly let the engine go, but after about 20 seconds the engine is reving like mad and the wheels go crazy, is this normal?
YZ-10 - August 28, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
no thats not right, is your thottle trim on transmitter at neutral? and when it is carb should be closed to apx 1mm gap
TobyG - August 28, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
everything is neutral, when the wheels start to spin like mad i dont even have my finger on the controller, it does it all my itself. Maybe i should send it back?
YZ-10 - August 28, 2008 05:30 PM (GMT)
check the low end needle is set to factory settings and check carb when closed has gap of 1mm
TobyG - August 28, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
ermmm im am totally new to this and i have no idea what they are? :(
