Title: Any ideas what's wrong guys?
Description: --it's like it's in neutral--

Well, as you may or may not know i've been having trouble with my savage lately, the thing is the engine revs, the clutch seems to be turning, and the spur gear turns, but it just doesn't go anywhere, or if it does go it is very slow and makes a nasty noise, which is actually very hard to describe and locate.

i thought it was the clutch slipping but i got new alluminium clutch shoes and it was still wrong, so i changed back to the old ones after giving them a slight roughen up and it's still not working.

So... i took the lid off of the gearbox to have a look inside and i can't find any thing wrong!!!

also if i turn the spur gear manually the thing goes forward!!!

no pics at present, but was just wondering if anyone may know whats wrong, (only thing i can think of is the reverse module is broken, and it's not letting the gears engage).

If no-one has any ideas could someone maybe come and have a look at it? (live near lydney in the forest of dean by the way).

Check the drive train and the Diffs mate, sounds to me like that, if nt it'll be the drive shafts

seany5060 - May 27, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
petty sure thats not the problem mate, i mean its nearly new. any chance of somone being able to come round to have a look at it or maybe i could bring it to somone to have a look at it.

seany5060 - May 27, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)

larwoo - May 27, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
haveyou checed that the slipper clutch is working properly as i had the sam problem on mine and hte noise was the clutch bell ripping the spur gear to pieces?

Andy

seany5060 - May 27, 2008 05:38 PM (GMT)
think the slipper clutch is fine, not changed any settings since modelsport tuned it, and the spur gear is fine and all the teeth don't even look worn, same as all the gears on the whole thing!

seany5060 - May 27, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
would obviously pay for someone's time, matt, are you listening?

Matt - May 27, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
sorry i missed this topic :gay:

i'm thinking flywheel loose? strip the clutch off and check the nut make sure its nice n tight

seany5060 - May 28, 2008 06:11 AM (GMT)
doubt it, but i'll have a look

seany5060 - May 28, 2008 09:52 AM (GMT)
ok here's what i think is wrong, is it plausable?

its the gearbox, as i see the spur gear spinning, but what i think may be happening is that somehow first gear is broken and it tries to disengage first gear to go into second but it's not going fast enough and thus second gear isn't engaging.

just wondering if anyone, e.g alans savage has a savage with the same gearbox as mine so that i can test this theory by putting in a gearbox or just gears that definitely work. (my savage is the x ss model by the way with the gearbox that can open from the top, you'd know what i meant if you had one)

any other ideas guys?

Matt - May 28, 2008 10:11 AM (GMT)
casing is different as you mention but the actual gears are the same

alan might be able to help

ok an update:

tightened the slipper to quarter turn off of fully tight and unplugged the reverse servo and pushed the little linkage on the reverse all the way in so that it cannot be the reverse module being halfway between forwards and backwards, so i took it out this moring and it goes forward!!! (not at its proper speed though, and it doesn't wheelie)

BUT.....

the engine keeps stalling, i think my dad must have accidently turned a needle on the carb when he put in the new crankshaft. (as the HSN is the one which you can tun by hand) so the engine needs to be tuned slightly i think.

any ideas whether it's too rich or lean?

as this car is still very new and too be honest i'm crap when it comes to tuning engines so i need some help :please:

Matt - May 30, 2008 08:47 AM (GMT)
could be slightly rich post a video of it running if you can

seany5060 - May 30, 2008 01:02 PM (GMT)
sorry no video as i don't have a camcorder and my phone never came with a lead to connect it to the computer,

would anyone be up for a bash in the forest and someone could help me tune it then maybe?

or is anyone close enough to come round? or i could bring it to someone if their not too far

otherwise it might have to wait till the 29th and the bash in aylburton that i'm organising, (if it's good weather).

Hornedreaper33 - May 30, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
Seany,

Have a look at this, it helped me out getting mine running right. Well that and the guys on here. Just make sure you have a screwdriver that fits the needles properly as sponge is actually tougher than the brass they make the needles out of!

I agree with Matt might be running too rich.

seany5060 - May 30, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
sorry, have a look at what?

Matt - May 30, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
i'd help you tune it but i'm not sure when i'm down that way next, this weekend was a possible but just dont have the cash spare

Hornedreaper33 - May 30, 2008 02:59 PM (GMT)

seany5060 - May 30, 2008 03:38 PM (GMT)
cheers hornedreaper33, looks like a great guide, will try and lean it a bit next time i have a chance and see if that makes a difference

seany5060 - June 1, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
ok started to lean it out a bit today and after a quarter of a turn it was running perfect, and idled great as well.

but then at slow speed it stalled....

and when i tried to get it going again it kept stalling as soon as i let off of the throttle or at idle, then after trying to get it going i noticed that the hump pack in the car must be flat as the servo's didn't move when i throttled, braked or turned. though they did twitch when i turned off the transmitter and kept the reciever on.

will charge up the pack and try running it tomorrow night,

could the charge in the hump pack have made it stall?

any ideas guys?

Do you have a fail safe fitted??

seany5060 - June 1, 2008 02:02 PM (GMT)
sadly no so i was lucky i saw that the battery was low whilst it wasn't running, though i think i need to get one.

Jedi Master - June 1, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
Its a must. Or at least a rubber band around your carb and throttle, to ensure it returns to the idle position. A fail-safe will only cost you a tenner, but a 'run-away' could cost you hundreds!!!

seany5060 - June 1, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
ok, any failsafes that would be ok and won't cost a great deal? any recommended ones?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fastrax-Micro-Failsa...1QQcmdZViewItem

90% of us use these. Very small, easy to set up, and does exactly what it says on the tin!!!

seany5060 - June 1, 2008 03:26 PM (GMT)
ok though it says micro, is that just referring to it's size not what car it's meant for?

also i think this is the same one clicky would rather buy from here if it's the same as dad wont get paypal for ebay and it would still work out the same price or maybe cheaper when postage is added

Jedi Master - June 1, 2008 03:50 PM (GMT)
Yep, same one. and 'micro' just refers to its size. We all use em on Monster trucks, Truggies and Buggies!!!!

seany5060 - June 1, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
kk cheers

Unless you Employ Spektrum Technology.

In that case.... It comes Pre-Built into the Receiver.....

Oh it's Great !!!!!

+1. Every model I got has it and I only need one transmitter!!!

seany5060 - June 1, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
well i would have got it but it was a bit too expensive for me, would have pushed my savage well over the £500 mark!

seany5060 - June 7, 2008 02:11 PM (GMT)
well got it out again just now and i stoppod it stalling, but now it's back to revving and not going anywhere!!!!!

had a good look at it and the spur gear is spinning not slipping and it's going nowhere, but as before if you turn the spur gear by hand the savage really does want to go!!!

ARGGGGHHHHH, can anyone please come and have a look at it or can i bring it to someone, as i have no idea on what's wrong :please: as at this rate it won't be ready for the bash on the 29th at that motocross track, and i'm sorry but if i'm not going or can't drive anything my dad won't let me pay the £10 for the land for the day, as he says it's a waste of money so yu'll all have to chip in if you still want to go.
