I'm still not sure about shaft drive?!?
Matt - March 2, 2006 12:51 PM (GMT)
shaft drive is awesome mate, its loss free and gives more punch out of corners

I think i told you before i was impressed with the BJ4 at my local club, very smooth very quick takes the jumps very well, runs a Novak brushless too.
Matt - March 2, 2006 02:54 PM (GMT)
yeah i'm still after a BJ4, but i'm now thinking of the ZX5 with this new conversion kit B)
NeilD - March 2, 2006 05:09 PM (GMT)
So would you cancel the BJ?
Matt - March 2, 2006 05:38 PM (GMT)
AE are not sending out any parts and hence JConcepts are stuck with incomplete kits,
no idea when they will finally reach here :( i reckon at least a few weeks yet
NeilD - March 2, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
Thats poor, i wonder if they will have long term supply problems of parts.

Well, I've just got a stock ZX-5 (bored waiting for the Yokomo) and fitted a Novak 6.5 Brushless system and crikey, that baby flies!
I am so impressed with it, can't wait to try it on something grippier than loose gravel because there is soooooooooo much power. Very little torque steer and it goes exactly where I point it. Just got to get used to sheer speed of the new power train! ;)

Yes the ZX5 is an awesome car,it handles great...the only reason why i didnt get one is because the stock version of the car is very fragile..it breaks easily...saw a couple of dudes at my local track breaking their chassis and other parts on their ZX5 after landing from jumps, but now with this conversion kit...things are looking great for the ZX5..i've been driving belt drive 4wd buggies for a very long time...but since ive got myself a BJ4..it's shaft all the way for me now...

Theres a lot of support for shaft drive, i'm gonna have to try and have a play with one.
Matt - March 3, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
i agree with Funkymojo, as standard the car is not strong enough but with these carbon options it will be an awesome car

Yes Neil...why not give shaft drive buggies a go? They accelerate like rockets and going in and out of corners are a breeze. The Academy SB Pro is a good car,the only problem is the gear ratio...the car uses 70t spur gear and getting a good ratio using a mod motor is a pain in the butt...motor often ended up overheating...the newer SB V2 is a better car..but currently only the sport version is out...the pro version is gonna be release pretty soon and it sure is sweet.Overall i like the SB Pro...that's why i wouldnt mind trading my CAT 3000 for one.

I think i would go for the BJ4 if i went to shaft but i really like the look of the new Yokomo i really would want to try them out before parting with my money.

The new Yok looks great..but an open belt drive transmission for offroad is a big no no for me...the older Yok MR4BC Special is a great car..but one tiny pebble would cause the belt and gears to strip..and boy does it happen often....my mate was so pissed,he smashed his against the wall...lol
NeilD - March 4, 2006 12:29 PM (GMT)
Thats interesting, was it a flaw with the Yokomo becuase all my 4WD cars have been belt driven and i've never had that problem (and i've never had a Yoko).
It seems RC has gone full circle because in the late eighties there were a lot of shaft driven cars but these were the lower end Taminya stuff now shaft drive is the world champion i realise things have evolved but the basic principle is the same.
Funkymojo - March 4, 2006 06:28 PM (GMT)
With all belt drive buggies..there's a fear of getting pebbles in the transmission...i mean it all depends how's the condition of your local track...where i race there's lots of tiny pebbles and it's dusty....Both the new and old Yokomo buggies have got pretty open transmission..there's no dust cover..drit and pebbles are bound to get in...
NeilD - March 5, 2006 10:29 AM (GMT)
Yeah i appreciate what you are saying but i feel in England where it tends to be on grass that the problem wouldn't affect us as much. Also, from my point of view i do the majority of my racing indoors.

after i seen a couple of guys at the club with bj4's showing me how smooth the trans was i just decided there and then it had to be a bj4, there is no other car which has a trans as smooth
Matt - March 5, 2006 12:41 PM (GMT)
and belt drive cars are fine in uk, but an undertray is pretty much essential here
NeilD - March 5, 2006 03:48 PM (GMT)
I agree with you Matt, the BJ4 is very smooth (and quick) if i was to change i would want to drive either the Yoko or the BJ4 before handing over my cash.
