Title: Thuder tiger probs!
Description: fuel and over run

larwoo - January 21, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
Guys can you please help me out.

I have been running my eb4 on 10% since i got it now thats all run out i have brought some 20 % trid running it tis afternoon and all the settings on the remote were far to high so i have had to back them up loads

but i can't get it to run right it keeps getting a load of overun when you just touch the throttle to the point were it will drive half way up the street by only moving teh throttle about 5mm and release it again.

Any ideas on what adjustments i need to make or why this is doing it

Please remember i am new to all this so be nice

Thanks in advance

Andy

hi, what brand of fuel is it you are using?

ok first set the needles on the carb to factory settings. then run a tank of your new fuel through at idle.

then refil with fuel and tune as follows...

start it and get engine warmed up drive up and down road and after every 2 laps turn the main (top end) needle 1/8 of a turn clockwise, repeat this until there is no increase in performance or the engine misfires and/or cuts then turn needle back 1/8 anti-clockwise to balance the mixture.

all the time your doing this keep an eye on the fuel and refil as necessary do not let the fuel drop below 1/4 tank (as less fuel means leaner mixture and will make tuning less accurate)

ok now for the bottom (low end) needle, this will not need much adjustment at all at most you are prob looking at 1/4 or 5/8 turn. again make adjustments 1/8 at a time, the key here is to get a nice snappy acceleration with no bogging down, if the engine revs increase/fluctuate at idle or when decelerating you have leaned it too much, increase the mixture by turning it back anti-clockwise 1/8 to balance the mixture.

matt thanks for that i will give it a try tomorrow as it is pissing down with rain now.

one other thing is that teh instructions i got with the car have no real way of telling what needle is what.

all this time i have been just guessing as to what needle to tune.

there are three could you please let me know which one is which

i haev one large needle which is counter sunk into teh carb opening
a little needle with a sping on it this is located just of the side of teh preious one

and another which is sat at the top of teh fuel input line

i know i must sound really thick buty hey we have all got to learn at some point.

from memory the ttr21 engine's stock settings should be 2 1/2 turns from closed on the HSN and 1/2 turn out from flush on the LSN. note when setting HSN be careful when turning it to fully closed position as soon as you feel a resistance stop (as the needle has a very fine tip and can easily be damaged if you go too far) and turn it anticlockwise to adjust as above.

heres a pic i labled up for you...

p.s. the idle screw should be adjusted so when carb is closed a gap of apx 1mm remains ;)

Stock settings for the thunder tiger .21 pro high speed needle seting is 1 and a half to 2 and a half turns from fully closed.

The low speed needle setting is 0.4mm in from flush to 0.4mm out from flush. Most set it to 0.4mm out from flush.

right guys as i have beautiful sunshine here in mk today i have ben trying to tackle the problems with my mixture settings.

i have got it now so that when i accelerate it doesn't run away from me and not stop and initial acce;eration is fantastic still sounds like it is idleing a litlle to high though.

wheni get about 30 feet away under load the engine starts to struggle and it sounds like it wants to bog down and stop

any ideas what to try now

try the bottom end out 1/8 if the idle keeps increasing, have you first tried turning out the idle screw a bit?

and did you follow the tuning method above for the top end needle in particular?

larwoo - January 22, 2008 01:50 PM (GMT)
i'll try teh low end needle a bit more and let you know how i get on

right i think i am almost there now maybe just a few minor adjustments need to be made but maybe one of you more experienced guys can have a look at the bash on the 3rd.

i can't do any more one because i don't really understand it and two because the tyres i was telling you all about just went bang and ripped to shreds so can't do any more for that reason alone.
