Description: advice needed!

Hi guys,
A guy who works with my mate has just brought a 3 month old savage 4.6, the guy asked my mate to ask me if i could tune the engine for him and he will bung me a few quid for doing it, he also wants me to put a light setup on for him.
Ive not tuned a savage before, but the rule should be the same though right? is there any helpful tips you can give me for easy tuning? or should i just say no i cant tune it for you?
hmm least i could do is have a look for the guy and fit a light setup but safety always first with me, if i dont know what to do i dont touch
Anyway im asking the best for advice so all good :D
cheers guys

cheers chris,
ok marc, first find out if engine has good compression (as no point wasting time trying to tune an engine with low compression it won't have any of it) and also check what fuel he's going to use (anything but the dredded model technics is ok, if tornado as you know even better)
reset to base settings...
for the hpi engine all needles should be flush, then start tuning from there....
start it and get engine warmed up drive up and down road and after every 2 laps turn the main (top end) needle 1/8 of a turn clockwise, repeat this until there is no increase in performance or the engine misfires and/or cuts then turn needle back 1/8 anti-clockwise to balance the mixture.
all the time your doing this keep an eye on the fuel and refil as necessary do not let the fuel drop below 1/4 tank (as less fuel means leaner mixture and will make tuning less accurate)
ok now for the bottom (low end) needle, this will not need much adjustment at all at most you are prob looking at 1/4 or 5/8 turn. again make adjustments 1/8 at a time, the key here is to get a nice snappy acceleration with no bogging down, if the engine revs increase/fluctuate at idle or when decelerating you have leaned it too much, increase the mixture by turning it back anti-clockeise 1/8 to balance the mixture.

You must remember that more poewer equals shorter engine life :)
I got my Nosram on base settings and that is engouh for me :) after half of tank i got wheelies on command :D
Good tips Matt
