Title: t-maxx help! (steering)
Marc.. RC Addict! - December 28, 2007 10:27 PM (GMT)
Hi guys, i hope you all have had a good christmas.
On boxing day i went to parents house for dinner and of course so me and the old man could take the cars and trucks out for a little bash, As soon as i turned on my t-maxx to check the electrics i noticed that my steering seemed to be moving a little slower then normal, and when i turn the steering right it slows down a little bit more and has some slight jerks. The first thing i did was change all the batteries but that had no affected.
Ive done a little video of the steering to show you the movement and how fast the steering reacts, im sure it used to be faster and a lot more responsive..
http://s208.photobucket.com/albums/bb17/cl...eeringtest2.flvHopefully i dont need a new servo but ill get one if i have to, i cant have my t-maxx setting there much longer, ive got 5 litres of fuel waiting to be used, lol :D
Any help or advice id be very greatfull, cheers guys
HAPPY RC-ING....

Might be on it's way out, or...
Might have a bit of shit in the gears...
Take the top of the Case off and inspect the gears inside, the smallest bit could cause what's going on there.

As soon as ive had a look at my t-maxx ill let you know
Matt - December 29, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
yeah the 2055 is traxxas' standard steering servo
might be worth asking tim i know he did have some of them
Marc.. RC Addict! - December 29, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)

all traxxas' i thought used the 2055 for steering its rated as 6kg torque
and the 2018 3kg torque one is for throttle
anything less than 6kg on a truck and steering wont move

Im nearly done guys, took the servo saver off and the steering is still slow, im cleaning the gears and gonna re-grease them. looks like i may need a new servo, lol
Marc.. RC Addict! - December 29, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
hi guys, yeh i tried all i can but the steering is just the same, looks like the servo is on its way out.. oh well i can get a replacement one for £10 but i was wondering should i get a better servo this time, but price is always an issue with me..
Matt - December 29, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
nout wrong with the traxxas ones really they do the job like, depends if you want more power/speed?
if you have around 15quid to spend then could get a tower pro?
also bear in mind...
if you change the servo and want to keep the stock servo saver you'll need a futaba splined servo! and also if going for more power you'll also have to consider that the servo saver will prob break or the power will be lost in the spring action of it.
ultimate upgrade would be proline steering kit and say 14kg servo :D

Morning matt, thanks for all your help mate
Cool i think ill just get the replacement traxxas 2055 servo as its cheap and does the job well and then i can just do a quick replacement job and not have to worry about changing any other parts just yet.
I must admit though i was thinking about getting a better servo, one with a bit more speed and power, i can get a new traxxas 2055 servo for £11 delivered but i was willing to spend about £15 or £20, but i dont really want to have to change more parts just to put a better servo in.
As im doing up my RC18T i think ill stay with traxxas to save some money and then get a better servo in the near future when i upgrade the T-MAXX a bit more, ive got a few days so ill have a good think.lol
Talk to ya soon mate
HAPPY RC-ING... :rc_car:

had a thought what about the futaba/ofna/hong nor servo think its a 3003?
i'll check, anyway its rated at 9kg!!!! and its fast so bit of improvement there
i have one in my ofna blazer and the steering is perfect, the servo is metal geared too!
and being futaba it will be a straight swap for the traxxas one
