Title: West midlands tracks
mattrivett - October 16, 2007 08:50 AM (GMT)
Hi
I am a total beginner and I am looking for a place to race my Mugen MBX5 in the west midlands or at least near Worcester.
Also I have got myself a Novarossi Plus 21-5 and seem to only be able to get any performance with 3 turns from fully closed on both the hig and low adjuster. If I turn the high end down to 1 1/2 it keeps stopping. Any tips would b very much appreciated
Matt

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum :)
MBX5 - great choice of car!
did you buy the engine new or used? and how much fuel has it seen?
i don't know the exact settings for that engine off hand but 3turns is a good base point
describe in more detail if you can the running probs you have
also top end needle down to 1 1/2 turns sounds like you've leaned it way to much
as for racing frankley prob is your best bet...

russ is racing down there this weekend

Great thankyou for your speedy reply.
ok 3 turns seems fine then, I bought it 2nd hand and it has about 2 1/2 glaaons through it. I was going to replace the sleeve and piston so give it a refresh.
It was conking (thats the technical term I believe) out if I went any where near full throttle. So I riched it back up to 3 turns and all was well once I had given it a good free rev to clear it up.
Another quick question while i am at it.
It seems to have a load of understeer when any power is on, is this normal and I just need to drive it differently?
thanks again!

also try make needle adjustments when engine is warmed up and only 1/8 turn at a time nitro engines are very responsive to small adjustments on the needles, also you won't go too far either way then,
you should have smoke from engine at all times. you mentioned it conked out that time at full throttle that was prob because it was running too lean, you did right to stop there and richen it up a little.
if you can make any of our coming bashes come on down mate, i'll give you few tips on engine tuning and tune it up nicely for you. next meet is this sunday in ross-on-wye
also yes bear in mind a piston/liner at some point in the future to bring back the performance to full
understeer... could be down to a few things, firstly what tyres are you running?
i also have a mugen but a mbx4 xr works (the model just before your one) not had a problem with understeer on mine, come down next weekend you can see it in action B)

Cheers for the offer, will be busy playing with other hobbies on the Sunday though! I will enter the race at Ledbury on the Saturday and see how it goes.
As for the understeer it's probably the tyres and me, I will bolt some crimefighters on and see what it does, bit less toe in at the back will probably help too. (3 at the mo)
the Franklin website is pretty bad, can't seem to find any winter dates?
russmini - October 16, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)

From Worcester running a Mugen MBX5 and a Novarossi 21-5
I have been using Models in motion who have been really good with parts and advice, but in the event that I need to get a bit the same day a more local place would be good.

Not that far from you then mate.
We'll count on you as a definate for Future Midlands Bashes. They're held in Redditch.
I'll be honest, i don't use anyone around here.
CDS Models in Bromsgrove are ok. I'm friends with them, but... not that quick most of the time.
I use Modelsport (not too bad)
Microtech (pretty Good)
Bolton Model Mart (Very Good)
Brock Models (Very Good, but limited)
Demon Products (Very Good)
Those i use via the Internet.
I can reccomend them all. They've each had a fair few pounds off me in the past. BMM have just had £500 !!!!! Nasty People !!! lol
Hope that helps a little

JESpares.com is great for Mugen parts, they have a "request item" part on their site which you can click and ask them to order it for you. Or instead go on their forum and speak to them direct.
They have gotten Mugen parts in for me before. The guy who works the shop has a Mugen along with quite a few on their forum.
My only problem with getting Mugen parts has been the UK supplier being out of stock.
Matt - October 16, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
i used to buy all my mugen parts direct from ted longshaw's
STR33TRAC3R - October 16, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Well he is the main UK supplier, he's always out of stock.

Thats all superb! many thanks for all your help!
