Title: Welshy40's Cars
Description: My Cars

welshy40 - June 15, 2007 06:37 AM (GMT)
Guys,

Here is the first car to show. Bodies will be done and showed later. Here is one of the 200 that were made, and to make it special as you can see it has servo mounts, and team blue stuff. I have zeroed the bump steer and changed a few screws here and there. Also it has different diffs and MIP UJs all round. he chassis is different as the cells placement are different on each side. Not level so I will be making a new chassis when i can afford to to make it more stable.
the shell on this at the mo is a mid LWB and the undertray doesnt fit, so ignoor the velcro but I cant get the shell any lower so I can screw it onto the chassis.

Well this is getting raced, and not being a shelf queen. Heck Losi / Yokomo / Tamiya and other manufacturers have copied this design since it was built way back in 96. Look at all th egearboxes and how many now have see through plastic gearcasings, how many have similar designed chassis.....the list goes on doesnt it

HAPPY BASHING..

Our boy won't be bashing that.. its pure racer!

Be interesting to see how it does compared to the newer stuff - i think very well - look how many people still use the Losi XX4.

We're hopefully gonna go to the east of england regional on the 18th August with it, I'll be racing my TRF501X though as my Lazer is an indoor car only.

welshy40 - June 15, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys, this is one of two identical cars, prototype items on both like the shocks (ive taken them off as i dont want to ruin them and put TRX1 shocks on), layshaft items, diffs, ujs and a few other items. Then I have a third as well but this is the plain ZXS not the Evo like the other two team cars.

Well Tom I have just got fibrelyte bits back for the other zxs (the one with the losi shocks which I havent got and the Yokomo wheels) and have built it up and its nice. Tom its yours mate as soon as its done, but you are going to have to come down and see it first ok.......

I have put new ujs on the front, new CF front, rear, shock towers, new small CF bits on the rear of the front gearbox, new CF redesigned top deck (my tie wrap slots in the zxs design), CF pivot blocks front and rear and all the CF parts for the gearbox as well. Front diff has been rebuilt perfectly, rear will be done as soon as i find a pure ten diff nut with the T bar on it so i can screw it together.

The best thing is that every one can buy these items from fribrelyte now, and the design is perfect, yes the bearings are hard to fit but thats a good thing.

I have only the shocks, titanium items to get to finish it, and maybe if i can find new gearbox poles then it will gleam as they are uncleanable as i have tried everything on them but heck its nice even though they arent shiney. Oh yes a gear cover is required as i dont have one.

I also have one washer missing from the gearbox but that I hope will appear sooner or later as I am hoping to get a pair. The washer in question is not a normal design as it holds the bearing in the CF on the rear plate, but I have done some magic and it should still be drivable without it.

cool keep us posted m8

welshy40 - June 16, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
OK, washer now found in my spares, I never realised I had one hehehe well all i need now is the tiny screw and game on for Tom.

Well since the pics I have replaced the kyosho ball joints with assoicated, and it feels and looks much better. The next job is to replace the castor block ball joint with an extra long associated one as well and then it will be complete.

I have also fiddled with the gear box as i am not so impressed with it, as there is a lot of slop on the layshaft, it moves left and right and it has been driving me up the wall. The ZX and ZXR has the same problem but with them it is very easy to get rid of the movement but with the ZXS it is a lot harder. I have almost done it but not completely.

Awesome mate! Cheers..

More money though huh?

welshy40 - June 18, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
of course matey, after all it was a mess and needed the shock towers, gearbox and other items replacing. The diffs have had a rebuild and need one nut to screw it all together.

I have no shocks yet but will get losi as well as titanium tie rods and hopefully complete it. If you want to race it then I guess the chassis is gonna have to be replaced to with my new extra design for the servo holes.

I need a new chassis for mine first tho as the batts dont fit in properly as they appear to be bigger

As you can see im not good at photography, however the two blue cars are evos and the one with wheels and no tires is a ZXS with yokomo wheels. I put the shocks from the proto car as i have my TRX1 shocks on. However the shocks will one day be changed to losi as per the original design.

As you can see i have also put in a mamba Max esc and the 5700 motor. I will be using a 10 double (curtousey of Tom) at an event soon, if tom can supply me with an entry form i would also be grateful. Well I have my car set up with a Yatabee arena setting and hope to find a decent setting for the surface we will be racing on. Will give feed back soon.

Matt - June 24, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
they look smart mate

tomstacey - June 25, 2007 07:17 AM (GMT)
Motor will be with you as soon as I've given it a skim bud. Entry form for Lawford.. I completely forgot! sorry..

I'll be on it very soon :)

p.s. cars look lovely. Get some bumpers ordered though as they are rare as you like!

scoobster - June 25, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Bumpers Tom ??? is his driving that rusty ??? :joker:

James they look sweet mate

welshy40 - June 27, 2007 06:21 AM (GMT)
Cheers guys.

Well two are almost complete but the yokomo wheeled ZXS still has a lot of work needed doing to it. Ive still got to get the steering link copied as its slightly different from the ZX one, as well as the chassis that needs to be redesigned slightly for use of a servo mount.

nice cars i see u got a mamba max in one it must shift like fish in water.

nice collection..

welshy40 - January 20, 2008 10:53 PM (GMT)
Mate it flies, I rekon its almost as quick as my old MR M Reedy which was prepared for 8 hours for the Basildon Worlds warm ups. Even Masami came over wondering what passed him in practice.

I do find that these brushless motors are far more smoother and not as agressive, but the powerline is much more fantastic. I am still unsure if I can gear the same way as I over geared my brushed motors and tended to cruise at half speed on the infield and then hit full speed down the straight, and no one could keep up with me down the straight.

Im impressed with the Peak 4.5 which I have put in now and havent really found out how good the Mamba 5700 is. The esc is fantastic and has a lot of common features to my last esc (Tekin 410K) which I used from the day it came out until I last raced properly at the end of 1999 season. That esc defied logic and my ratios were well higher than all the manufacturers and other top racers were using.

Still I have a lot of work to do as the speed was what caused the damaged to my ZXS and now I am having to get spares made by an alloy specialist so I can get racing again. What fun!!
