Title: Kyosho Lazer ZXS

Funkymojo - March 13, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
Hi guys, i've always wanted to own a Kyosho Lazer ZXS or the ZXS Evo. I've emailed some of my rc mates in Japan and they told me the ZXS and ZXS Evo are pretty much the same cars except that the ZXS Evo has got a metal kick up plate attached to the chassis front end instead of a one piece cf chassis with kick up and small bits like the rear uprights. Quality wise the ZXS uses thicker cf chassis and is a tad better than the ZXS Evo..both cars are really rare and expensive. Recently one of my japanese contacts managed to help me locate a great condition Lazer ZXS, it's got titanium turnbuckles, option parts like Team Atlas lightweight blue anodised motor mount, motor plate and bits and pieces. Seller wanted lots of cash for it but i had to have it...paid a premium for it and now it's on it's way to me...woo hooo can't wait...Well i'll see how she runs, if she's not to my liking, there's always a Yok MR4BX for me to get. ;)

Don't worry matey...if i wanna sell it, you'll be the first to know..who knows maybe a Yok MR4BX or a JConcepts BJ4WE might be the better car for me... :P

Funkymojo if you are going to race i would say one of the latest buggys might be better like the two you listed or the Tamiya TRF501X or even a ZX-5 with a few hop ups on it can still win races

Tried a fully hopped up ZX5..didnt like it...and saw one of my mate's TRF 501x..wasnt too impress with the quality..lots of slop here and there..needs a lot of shimming, but it's beautiful though...For ep buggies, i've always been a big fan of Yokomo..i had a BJ4WE and a Yok MR4BX before..both were great handling and well made buggies..it's a pity i sold them cos at that time my local ep offroad track closed it's doors...

I know it's wishful thinking but did you get a set of original decals with it?

It's on it's way..once it arrives..i'll check ok? But i do know that the ZXS Evo never came with any decals..guess it's just like the Yok MR4BX...

well done m8 the zxs is lush

tomstacey - March 14, 2007 12:37 PM (GMT)
I`ll swap you a yoke for it

I think the original ZXS had decals, but the 2002 reissue didn't.. just some generic kyosho decals..

Ive heard similar things about the Tamiya too.. fit and finish not quite up there with the best..

What you need funkymojo is a james instone inspired ZXR!!

scoobster - March 14, 2007 01:39 PM (GMT)
Not sure about others but the only thing i found a let down or like toms say not up there with the best on the TRF 501X was the screw set, which if i had the option again i would have got a stainless screw set before i started the build but other than that i'm more than happy with the fit and finish of the Tamiya (it's not bad from a toy company Monty/Badger :joker:)

Hi Tom, I've had a fully decked up ZX before..all cf and ali bits on it..it was nice but sold it off cos i'm not really a Kyosho guy...not until i saw a ZXS...the beauty and design of the car freaked me out...well i'm the type of guy who believes in good vibes..LOL..certain cars like the MR4BX and BJ4WE definately had good vibes..an instant connection..i do hope the ZXS will share the same good ole' vibes...LOL..if she doesnt have the vibes..she'll be up for grabs..i'm not much of a collector..i get a car to race it or atleast run around the car park...Yup, so if the ZXS doesnt suit my driving style..she'll be leaving home...

Yes the screws on the 501x pretty much sucked...the ali bits and cf are really well made but the fit is just not up to standard..well all Tamiya kits have this problem..i think it's the only brand new kits that requires the builder to shim it a little here and there..when i bought my 415msx..i was surprised that in the manual, builders are adviced to shim the c hubs, knuckles..etc...we did a side by side comparison between the 501x and MR4BX...the Yok had better fitting and overall parts quality but it cost a lot more than the 501x though...

Hi ya mates...just received an email from the seller who sold me the ZXS...it is a replica of what the japanese Team Kyosho drivers were driving up until 2004 before the release of the ZX5. All the blue aluminum parts on it are original Kyosho hop up parts made for team drivers and not made by Team Atlas as i first thought...Sigh it's so beautiful i can't bear to race it, and to think all i wanted was a good 4wd buggy to race...

scoobster - March 17, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
Didn't the Team Drivers use the ZX-S Evo?

Hi ya Del...from what i was told the Team drivers were driving both the ZXS and ZXS Evo..both cars are the same and some drivers prefered the one piece chassis and vice versa..Kyosho made a couple of prototype chassis for the ZXS/ZXS Evo..some were one piece and some had the metal kick up plate..But one thing i know for sure, there are are no more than 500 ZXS/ZXS Evo in the market. They are pretty rare cars. The ZXS was made in very low quantity and when purchased brand new came with a Team Kyosho owners card with a serial number. The ZXS Evo was also sold in limited quantities, not more than 300 were made. For a very short period of time, Kyosho offered team driver hop up parts like the lightweight blue anodised parts that's on my ZXS. My japanese mate told me that the ZXS/ZXS Evo were probably one of the best ep 4wd buggy Kyosho ever made but sadly around that period of time, ep offroad has lost its popularity in Japan and the rest of the world...

Hi mates, just got myself another rare find...sigh now i really need to live on welfare. Here's a rare Nikko Brat kit..Nikko made racing buggies in the late 80s and early 90s..there was the basic kit, the Dandy Dash and the Super Sprint came with all the hop ups. In the early 90s. Nikko released the Brat conversion kit, upgraded diffs, longer wheelbase and a frp chassis that allowed the use of saddle packs. A year later, the Brat 2 conversion kit was released, with nylon white front and rear arms, gold universal joints, hardened gears(by the way, the Brat uses gear diffs, no ball diffs were made). A 16 turn Upworks motor, purple aluminum shocks(they are really smooth) and a new yellow kevlar belt made by bridgestone. What so special about the kit i purchased? Well, it's a complete Brat kit..yup..this came with both Brat conversion kit 1 and 2 plus all the extra parts needed to complete the kit...As far as i'm concerned..this is the first time i've ever seen a complete Brat kit...rare find and recently it's rare to find my wallet full too...LOL

Hi mates...just took some pics of both me and my mate's ZXS Evo..Both our lazers used to belong to Kyosho team driver S.Kimura hence both buggies are identical...looks just like 2 peas in a pod..both buggies were taken without bodyshells..mine's the one with the undertray on....
